Hose is stretched out and charged to a pre determined pressure and any hose that fails is immediately removed from service. We hope to have all of the hose tested by no later than the end of May.

100+ ACRE WOODS FIRE
Thursday, May 12th, units from fire district 11, fire district 7, fire district 1 and forestry spent hours trying to put a large woods fire under control. The fire originated near E. Powerline Rd. and quickly spread along a path down Pine St. Ext. The flames at times were whipped by the wind and along with dry conditions allowed the fire to reach to the tops of many trees. Plows from foresty cut lines to protect homes and to keep the fire from spreading while other personnel fought to extinguish the fire and prevent spot fires from causing more problems. Some private properties received minor damage but we are happy to report that no homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.

WOODS FIRE WITH HOMES THREATENED
Around 11:50am on Saturday May 7th, units responded to Chris Kennedy Rd for a large woods fire threatening homes, barns, vehicles and farm equipment. The fire expanded more than 100 acres and spread down nearby Tedd Kennedy Rd., and the end of Central Ave. The fire was placed under control by several different fire districts as well as forestry who dug a plow line around the perimeter of the fire. Heavy smoke and some fire are likely in the area for several days so people should use caution in the area. Personnel will continue to monitor the location to ensure fire stays within the plow lines. Homes were threatened but fortunately none received damage. Some minor equipment damage was reported in the area.

In less than two weeks, Fire District 11 personnel and their Advanced Life Support Ambulance have responded to two calls of unresponsive patients. Arriving on scene, personnel found both times patients that were not breathing properly (respiratory arrest) and/or having hearts that were not functioning properly or completely stopped (cardiac arrest).
In the past it often happens that we respond to emergencies and no matter what we do, how much effort is put into the emergency both on scene and at the hospital; the end result is the patient doesn't make it or after hours or days in the hospital the patient ends up passing away. Advances in studies, education, training and standards both nationally and locally can be credited for the improvements in saving lives. St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 is no exception to this. We are constantly continuing education both on the fire and EMS divisions of our department with much more upcoming training for our personnel. Please check out press release recently submitted to the media to read about how our trained and professional personnel recently helped to save lives.
