Hwy 41 Construction
PEARL RIVER, LA:  Road and drainage construction has begun on Highway 41 in Pearl River.  Driving down highway 41 you can see construction equipment, cement trucks and culverts being put into place.  Before heading out on to the highway, please pack your patience and please use caution to keep the construction workers safe.







Fast Food Fire
PEARL RIVER, LA:  Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at approximately 1:09PM, St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 units responded to the McDonalds at the corner of Hwy 11 and Hwy 1090 for a possible commercial structure fire.  Upon arrival, it was determined that all occupants where out of the building and smoke was still coming out of the kitchen A/C vents.  A small fire was located and extinguished in a roof top A/C unit by fire department personnel.  The restaurant was safe for occupants to return soon there after.  Engine 111, Engine 112, Ladder 112, Medic 112 and Chief  responded to the call along with units from the Pearl River Police Department to assist with traffic enforcement and crowd control.







Train vs. 18 Wheeler
June 25, 2009: Pearl River, LA:  At approximately 3:15pm a freight train heading south towards New Orleans struck the front of an 18 wheeler truck.  The incident happened in Pearl River at the railroad crossing at Hwy 3081 and Highway 41 Spur.  The truck driver came up to the track as the crossing arms came down and was unable to back away.  The driver immediately jumped from the truck and ran away from the scene before his truck was struck.  The incident caused minor damage to the front of the freight train and did not compromise the train on the track or any of the cargo on board.  The truck sustained damage to the front engine compartment but did not compromise the cargo on board.  No injuries were sustained from the accident.

Rescue & Fire Training:
Thursday, July 2, 2009: Pearl River, LA:  Personnel from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 turned out for an evening of training.  This training session turned out to be very important because several of the trainees are new to the department.  The training began with some basics of search and rescue, moved  into hose handling and patters and ended with a live fire in the burn tower where trainees learned about and experienced fire and heat and how small amounts of water can extinguish a fire.
